WHAT IS A PURPLE HEART CAR DONATION
Chartered by Congress, the Military Order of the Purple Heart is a national organization composed of combat wounded veterans who have been awarded the Purple Heart medal. The order is founded on the decoration originally established by General George Washington in 1782.
The Military Order of the Purple Heart is a Congressionally chartered non-profit organization that has been dedicated to helping veterans for over 60 years. Over 100,000 donors have trusted Purple Heart with their car donation.
Purple Heart has strived to make the car donation process easy and pleasant for donors. To donate your car, you may donate online by completing an easy to use donation form or call their toll-free number (888-414-4483) and their staff will walk you through the donation process. Either way, the process is quick and easy.
All cars donated to Purple Heart are tax deductible. The IRS allows donors to deduct the full market value of their donation on their tax return. Purple Heart issues all donors a receipt along with all of the necessary IRS paperwork. Donors are encouraged to determine the Fair market value of their vehicle by using the N.A.D.A. Blue Book (www.nadaguides.com).
All vehicles must have their titles and once everything is arranged, Purple Heart will have your car towed away at no cost to you. Alternatively you can drive your vehicle to one of their facilities. This is preferable, as the towing cost does not have to be deducted from your donation.
If you do have the vehicle picked up, Purple Heart’s towing companies will contact you to schedule a convenient date to collect your car. When the towing company arrives to pick up your vehicle, they will also pick up the title and keys for the vehicle. If you are not going to be home when the car is picked up, you will need to advise the towing company specifically where in the vehicle you will be leaving the title and keys. The towing company will leave you a towing receipt showing that your vehicle was picked up on behalf of Purple Heart. Once Purple Heart is in possession of your donated vehicle and title, we will mail your donation receipt and IRS tax form in approximately 10 business days.
Donating to Purple Heart is a great way to save time and money. Not only do you help veterans, but you are likely to get a far better deal than you would from a car dealer and don’t have the hassle of selling privately.
