There is a company called Donation Wizard that works with Habitat for Humanity, Breast Cancer Foundation, March of Dimes, NPR, and a bunch of other charities. They are give the charities 80% of the GROSS from each car, which is a lot more than I’ve found with other car donation programs (most of which appear to give about 50% of the NET). Their site is www.donationwizard.com.

Used Car Donations
Concept of used car donation is noble idea and it is popular
too. In daily life you see a number of vehicles with banners of
certain organizations providing services to needy people. In
this you see ambulances with thanksgiving lines to the donor who
may be an individual or a charity group. You also see some
vehicles providing assistance to victims of natural calamities
like floods and earthquakes. Have you ever think from where
these vehicles come from? Some of these vehicles are donated by
donors under used car donation scheme.
This is an easy way to make your contributions towards humanity
service. Used vehicles normal gain very little resale value and
one may even think of throwing it in scrap. But when such used
vehicle is donated to an organization, it may boost their fund
raising drive for their activities of social importance. Such
used vehicles received from the donors are used by these
organizations for providing help to need people in many ways. An
organization may modify the vehicle into an ambulance or use it
for transporting the aid to need people or the victims of some
calamity. The organization may think of auction the received
vehicle to raise fund for their social activities. In both the
cases your contribution surely helps the needy people.
If one is determined to donate his used vehicle he can search
for an organization or charity group serving the need people
through local media or through internet. After he chose a
particular organization of his preference his duty is only to
contact that organization. It is responsibility of the concerned
organization to tow away the vehicle from any part of the nation
and complete other administrative formalities. Donation of used
vehicles is a cheaper, easy and hassle free process. As there is
provision of grant of tax deduction and administrative charges
levied on such donations are lesser this system is beneficial to
both donor and organization. If you have decided to make large
contributions towards human service, donating used vehicle is
one of the easy methods. Organization may consider the sale of
such vehicles through professional auctioneers to To gain
maximum proceeds from such vehicle. This means used car
donations can yield more money than selling the same vehicle in
the market.
To avoid fraudulent uses of this system, which is very rare
governments have laid down certain rules for donating and
accepting the used vehicles. These rules are beneficial to the
donor as he all information about use and sale of donated
vehicle and he can claim tax deduction on his income. While
choosing an organization for used car donation on must check
that the organization is government approved and reliable.
No doubt, used car donation brings up rays of hope in the life
of needy and underprivileged. A vehicle which otherwise was of
no use for you and you might have faced problem of towing away
gives assistance to needy people and satisfaction to your of
having served the mankind. One must take the opportunity of
donating his used car for the humanitarian purpose instead of
throwing it in scrap.

Car Donation Benefits
Why are car donations a good idea? As a car owner, there
comes a point when you realize that your automobile is on its
last legs. Assuming you have the next automobile in your sights
and/or possession, what can you do with your clunker? If it’s a
heap and needs extensive work, there’s no point in giving your
wallet a beating. Why pay a thousand dollars in repairs if the
car is only worth a few hundred? Who is to say it won’t break
down again shortly thereafter, costing you even more? If the
motor runs and the wheels aren’t rolling off, a lucky younger
relative in need of a handout could take it as a present. Or you
could spend money advertising it for sale, yet receive a
pittance. Making a car donation is a smart option.
Whether a convertible, a bus, a pickup or a junker, a
non-profit charity will gladly take your vehicle. It does not
even have to be a running vehicle to donate it. It is a tax
write off and you’re able to claim more for making a
contribution than what you would get selling it. The assistance
you give to the charity of your choice by making a car donation
gives a feeling of satisfaction.
Making a gift of a car donation is simple. The hardest
part is figuring out which deserving charity gets your help, and
that’s not a bad task at all. You can choose from large national
organization that you are familiar with such as the United Way,
American Lung Association, The Red Cross, The Boy Scouts or the
Salvation Army. Or you can choose something local that will aid
your community exclusively. Church groups, schools and local
hospitals are all places to check.
Most places will come to you for a pickup within all 50 U.S.
States. The company will come with a tow truck to where your
vehicle is at your convenience. It can be towed anytime during
the week that you have time, usually within the week and some
organizations can do rush pickup within a day or two. You do not
have to pay anything for them to come and take it. If your
vehicle is worth less than $500 they’ll give you a receipt
quickly. If it is worth more, it will take longer to get your
receipt. Once you have the receipt detailing your gift of a car
donation, hold it until tax time to be itemized. You most likely
have a general idea of what your automobile is worth. Kelley
Blue Book will also aid you in assessing the value of your
gift.
Depending on the organization, up to 100% of all money made
from your car donation will go to that charity. How many times
have you given a handout to a bell-ringer or put a contribution
into a jar and felt a little guilty? Have you wished it could be
more? There may never be the “perfect time” to pull out $500 or
more to give to a charity organization you believe in. Donating
your automobile gives you that perfect time and the relief of
not having to do anything more than make a call.

Purple Heart
WHAT IS A PURPLE HEART CAR DONATION
Chartered by Congress, the Military Order of the Purple Heart is a national organization composed of combat wounded veterans who have been awarded the Purple Heart medal. The order is founded on the decoration originally established by General George Washington in 1782.
The Military Order of the Purple Heart is a Congressionally chartered non-profit organization that has been dedicated to helping veterans for over 60 years. Over 100,000 donors have trusted Purple Heart with their car donation.
Purple Heart has strived to make the car donation process easy and pleasant for donors. To donate your car, you may donate online by completing an easy to use donation form or call their toll-free number (888-414-4483) and their staff will walk you through the donation process. Either way, the process is quick and easy.
All cars donated to Purple Heart are tax deductible. The IRS allows donors to deduct the full market value of their donation on their tax return. Purple Heart issues all donors a receipt along with all of the necessary IRS paperwork. Donors are encouraged to determine the Fair market value of their vehicle by using the N.A.D.A. Blue Book (www.nadaguides.com).
All vehicles must have their titles and once everything is arranged, Purple Heart will have your car towed away at no cost to you. Alternatively you can drive your vehicle to one of their facilities. This is preferable, as the towing cost does not have to be deducted from your donation.
If you do have the vehicle picked up, Purple Heart’s towing companies will contact you to schedule a convenient date to collect your car. When the towing company arrives to pick up your vehicle, they will also pick up the title and keys for the vehicle. If you are not going to be home when the car is picked up, you will need to advise the towing company specifically where in the vehicle you will be leaving the title and keys. The towing company will leave you a towing receipt showing that your vehicle was picked up on behalf of Purple Heart. Once Purple Heart is in possession of your donated vehicle and title, we will mail your donation receipt and IRS tax form in approximately 10 business days.
Donating to Purple Heart is a great way to save time and money. Not only do you help veterans, but you are likely to get a far better deal than you would from a car dealer and don’t have the hassle of selling privately.
Oh yes, then there’s that tax deduction!!

Red Cross
HOW DOES A RED CROSS CAR DONATION WORK
Cars donated to the Red Cross are used to help disaster victims when they need it most. Proceeds from the sale of donated vehicles enable workers to return to their jobs, children to return to schools, and families to move back home or find new housing. Vehicles, which are unfit for driving provide a valuable resource for parts. By donating the car to the Red Cross, not only will you make a great difference in the life of someone in need, but you’ll get a valuable tax deduction as well.
The Car Donation Program is an important year-round fundraiser for the Red Cross. The Organization works with Capital Auto Auction to auction the vehicles for the most possible profit, with proceeds benefiting Red Cross programs and services.
To donate your car to the Red Cross either fill out the online form at www.redcross-cmd.org/Chapter/vform.html or call 410-764-4644.
Once we have your donation information, one of our towing companies will contact you to schedule a convenient date to pick up your vehicle. When the towing company arrives to pick up your car, they will also pick up the title and keys for the car. If you are not going to be home when the car is picked up, you will need to advise the towing company specifically where in the vehicle you will be leaving the title and keys. The towing company will leave you a towing receipt showing that your car was picked up on behalf of Red Cross.
All cars must adhere to these five rules:
1. Four inflated tires
2. Set of car keys
3. Clear title
4. No Lean on vehicle
5. If older than 1990, vehicle must be driveable.
The car needs to be either in the driveway or on the street - tow trucks will not drive into yards.
After the vehicle has been picked up, you may call 410-764-4644 to request a receipt.
Please have the car’s estimated value calculated before you call. To determine the value of your vehicle, you might consult the Kelly Blue Book website, or the NADA Official Car Guide in your local library. To determine your car donation-related tax deduction, it is recommended you consult with your tax attorney.
If your donation is worth more than $5,000, then you will need an appraisal and a signed 8283 tax form for your tax purposes. Vehicle donors receive an acknowledgement letter and tax receipt within 2 weeks of donation.

Insider info on Car Donations for Charity
CAR DONATION FOR CHARITY AND SMILES
Buying a new car is always an exciting time. There are lots of new models with ever changing features that you would probably love to have in your driveway.
But what about your old car? Selling it privately can be a real drag. Advertising is expensive, even then you are not guaranteed to get any phone calls. And just when you get somebody interested in the car they make such a low offer for it that you may as well give it away.
The good news is that you can give your old vehicle away and get the Fair Market Value for it in the shape of a hefty tax rebate. In the year 2003, nearly ¾’s of a million people took a car donation deduction on their federal tax returns, thusly lowering their taxes by over $650 million.
There are hundreds of worthwhile causes who run car donation schemes and whether you want to donate to cancer research, animal shelters or feeding the homeless, there is almost certainly somebody who can channel the money from your old car into a cause that you have sympathy with.
Unfortunately, as is the case with anything that has money involved, there are some companies that exploit this system and potential donators should be wary.
If at all possible, find a charity that will deal with your donation directly. Try to avoid the for-profit intermediary organizations that advertise so pervasively to handle your car donations. When you work with one of these organizations, they keep the vast majority of the dollars created from your donation. Even the most reputable of the agencies that handle these transactions keep nearly 50% of the car’s value for their troubles (other, less scrupulous entities keep 90%, or even more). If you can find a charity that handles the transaction themselves, they can keep 100% of their profits. If you do have to donate via an intermediary try to find an agency that maximizes that amount of proceeds that goes to the cause, and call the charity to confirm that percentage before you give. The charities are reluctant to criticize the middlemen, because they don’t want to lose the dollars they do receive, but state attorney generals are beginning to investigate and even prosecute these for-profit middlemen, for holding themselves out as charities and misleading the public on the amount that is actually reaching charitable causes.
It is true that the biggest winner in the car donation game is usually the donor, and not the charity recipient. But if you take your time, ignore the quick and easy television appeals, and find a reputable, high-performing charity that will make the most of your donation, everyone can emerge better off.
